today is the first time that I cannot get Disk Clean up
to complete the task. The Disk Cleanup box appears the
first time I click on it, or access it through RUN, but
after failure to complete the Disk Cleanup task, it
cannot again be accessed until I turn off or re-start my
computer.
My whole computer is running mmuch slower than normal.
Fire wall is up and functioning. Virus scan identifys no
problems.
I also entered "cleanmgr" from the RUN window. Either
way, the Disk Cleanup box appears on the screen, two
green dashes appear in the progress window in the Disk
Cleanup box, then Disk Cleanup ceases to function, though
task manager shows the application is running.
I have restarted the computer five times. Turned off the
computer, then started it. And, turned off the computer,
disconnected from external AC and from the battery.
Nothing is changing the sluggish performance of the
computer or the failure of Disk Cleanup to complete it's
task, beyond a message of "copmressing old files." I do
not know if that means Disk Cleanup is checking
compressed files or is compressing files.
I ran disk defragmenter, which took an exceptionall long
time, relative to normal disk defragmentation operation.
This problem appears out of the blue. At last turn off,
the computer functioned well and at the last Disk Cleanup
task, it functioned efficiently. I did a lot of work,
involving plats and scans since the last Disk Cleanup
yesterday
