Hi
Running cleanmgr.exe via Start/Run, a window that states its calculating
the amount of disk space that I will be able to free had not terminated
after about 15 minutes so I canceled it. Do I have a problem with
cleanmgr.exe? Or am I impatient? Alec

I've just found the same or a very similar problem - it seems to be a
variation on the circumstances described in knowledge base article 812248 -

"When you try to compress old files, the Disk Cleanup tool may stop
responding (hang) and you receive the following message:

Disk Cleanup is calculating how much space you will be able to free on (C:).
This may take a few minutes to complete.
Scanning: Compress old files"

The problem I have is not one of not responding but instead the utility
continues to run using 100% CPU. I've tried just leaving it to run, but it
seems it would go on for ever. If you find a solution I'd be very
interested.

Solution now found from previous posts.

Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Disk Cleanup - Compressed Old Files Freezes (Line 48)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. Good idea to create a System Restore
point first.
