Disk Cleanup seems to hang

T

Tim Fague

Disk cleanup on my Windows XP Home system disk starts with
3 dots on progress bar and seems to loop indefinitly. The
dots in the progress bar never proceed beyond three. It
can be cancelled but then the system runs EXTREMELY
sluggish. The window showing what can be cleared never
appears.
A boot seems the only cure. This problem has cropped up
only within the last 2-3 weeks. Restoring the system does
not solve the problem.
Anybody have a clue, or better yet, a circumvention or fix?

disc cleanup will not function. I get three bars then freeze. I cannot remove temporary internet files either. Please help me.

I've run into the same problem. Can't find a fix yet for
the original problem, but you can at least avoid the
reboot after cancelling by using task manager to end the
process (cleanmgr). Hope that helps!
