Disk Cleanup has stopped working

(running XP home)

When I try to run the Disk Cleanup utility the progress bar stops after
displaying 4 boxes. It never finishes.

If I cancel/close and try to restart DC the popup window won't even show.

If I reboot and start DC again, the popup window displays immediately with
the same four progress boxes.

Has anyone else had this problem? I ran a complete check disk and the
problem persists.

Start > Run > Cmd

CD\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5

DIR

CD <first directory>
Del *.*

CD <second directory>
Del *.*

etc.....

When you have completed manually deleting all files from all the
directories, Disk Cleanup will work again.
