Hello. Last night I rebooted my pc and on restart got the message that Disk
Check wanted to scan drive C for possibly corrupt files. I let it scan and it
deleted numerous files. When it finished the check and started...everything
saved in My Documents was gone and many of my programs are gone also. I
attempted a system restore but got a message stating the system had not been
changed. Any suggestions? Thank you!

That's really unfortunate. A Chkdsk will run when the disk status
is marked as "Dirty". The problem with Chkdsk with Repair is the
potential for lost files and folders.
There is a slim chance of data recovery using some 3rd-Party
tools that do data recovery. However, the more you use the PC
the less likely recovery is possible.
Hopefully, you have your personal data backed up. If not, then
you've learned a painful lesson. All magnetic media, including disk
drives are susceptible to data loss. Sad to say, your loss was done
by Windows XP itself working to fix disk errors.
