Disabling Touchpad

R

Rob

I use a laptop and can never get on with the touchpad, so
I have always had a usb mouse plugged in. I disabled the
touchpad and for over 1 year this has been good.

Just recently the touchpad has started working without me
changing anything. I downloaded the latest driver from
Synaptics and although when the computer boots up it says
that the device is disabled, it still works. When I then
go to the settings and firstly enable it and then diable
it, it stops working so the driver seems to work, it's
just that windows seems to ignore the fact that it's
disabled when it boots up.

I checked the BIOS, but there's no settings for the
touchpad there.

This started happening before I installed SP2, so can't
blame that!!

Any ideas?

Am curious. Why do you disable it.
What is the difference with Just not using
the Touchpad.

Find that when I type my thumbs rest on it causing the
mouse to move, select text, etc. Just never really got
the hang of them and find a mouse much easier to use.

Disable the touchpad with the device manager, this is a user
setting so you can have it in one login and not in another.

I understand that it could be a problem because you might
move the cursor accidentally.

Hi,

Usually the touchpad utility has a setting that you can select auto-disable
touch pad when it auto detect there is a PS/2 or USB mouse. Pls refer to the
user manual.
