Replacing touchpad

Intermittent problem with touchpad on HP pavilion. Lose control of touchpad.
arrow moves up and down by itself. i uninstalled and reinstalled driver.
touchpad works ok for awhile and then goes bad again. hp chat said it's a
hardware problem. is this something i can replace myself?

You'd need to look at the HP field service documents. Some touchpads on
certain model laptops are very easy to replace and others aren't. Look on
HP's tech support website for manuals or Google around for instructions. Of
course, you need to get the hardware from HP for your specific model
laptop.

Laptops are extemely complex to replace parts due to the fact that
everything is "crammed" in a tight case. Several laptop do not have
casing that can be easily opened.

Why ask here? What does physically replacing a component have to do
with the OS? NOTHING.

You response reads so much like some "Paul" , who most likely is in
so many boozo-bin (kill-files) that he had to nymshift.
