i know how to change this setting in windows xp, but i am unable to load in
to windows using any of the options available/ safe mode/last known config..
As there is a blue screen error but restarts before i can see it.
Is there a way of editing the registry through the recovery console and
adding the relevant entry or is there an event log i can look at, please
help, many thanks, Simon.

Hi

If you don't see any error messages, right click on My Computer, select
Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on Settings under Startup and
Recovery and disable 'Automatically restart'. Next time your PC reboots,
you should see a Blue Screen. Could you please post the Stop Code that
accompanies that BSOD back here?

there is an option in
startup/recovery via advance via systems via control panel.

there are event logs too that record problems. they are in admin tools..

I understand that there's an entry available in SP2 that (when the computer
reboots) you can press to disable the automatic restarts - haven't seen it
myself.

Also, as long as you haven't changed it, the system will write the error to
the Event Log so that you can view it there. (Start...Run...type in
EVENTVWR.MSC and press Enter).

Right click My Computer>Advanced>Start up and recovery - under "System
failure" clear "Automatically restart".

all sorted thanks for your help
