Disable Pop-up notifications

I attach a USB scanner to my XP Home and to my XP Pro, and each time, I get
the small yellow window on the USB icon alerting me that if I plug the device
into a hi-speed USB port, the device will work faster. However, I do not have
any hi-speed ports, and when I click on the notification bubble to see a list
of hi-speed ports, even the dialog window states: There are no hi-speed USB
ports on this computer.

How do I stop XP from reminding me to use hardware I don't have?

Look in the BIOS to see if USB 2.0 is disabled, if it is enable it.
If USB 2.0 drivers are not installed check the manufacturers support site
for drivers, download/install them per their instructions.

You can tell if the drivers are installed by looking in Device Manager
under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". If you don't see anything
pertaining to high speed or USB 2.0 enhanced they are not installed.

Open Device Manager, right click My Computer | Manage | System Tools |
Device Manager. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
Double click the Open Host controller entry. On the Advanced tab put a
tic mark in Don't tell me about USB errors. Do this for all the
controllers listed.
