Disable Norton AV

B

Ben

Since the early days of Norton, I've supported their products, but feel it may
be time to change AV software, and would like to try AVG.

My question is: Can I disable the AV portion of System Works 2003, so that I
can install and test AVG to see if I like it? If so how?

I don't really want to go through the hassle of un-installing System Works
for the test if it can be avoided.

Thanks for any guidance you can provide an old man. :))

Hello
Yes you can disable it on the taskbar but everytime you restart it will load
back up.
I am not sure if it will cause any conflicts with the trial AV because it is
still on the system just disabled from running.

How do you know forsure how good your AV protection really is?
I feel the best protection is a good firewall, possibly a router with built
in firewall.

First off, my apologies, the magazine was PC Magazine, www.pcmag.com. The
article was quite lengthy and in-depth running numerous scenarios against
several leading programs. Their conclusion was the GFI MailSecurity. I
offered up their web site because the article may be posted there too.

The June issue of PCWorld magazine rates Trend Micro PC-cillin as
the "Best Buy" and Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus as the Worst. Norton i
about in the middle.

I also have Norton System Works 2003 and AVG anti-virus. No conflicts
at all (just don't run a full scan with each at the same time -
sloowwww system). The only thing is that you only want one email
scanner working at a time. In my case, I just disabled the Norton AV
email scan and left AVG to do that job. Norton's Auto-Protect is
enabled - no problems. You should not have to un-install anything.

By the way - the 2003 version is the last one I will use, recommend or
sell. Judging from all I have seen and heard regarding 2004, looks
like Norton (Symantec) products have gone way downhill.

I wondered if how it would be if you turned off the Service for Norton AV? ...
and Auto protect?

Would this be better tan doing it on the taskbar?

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Ben
