mourning

the old mans back.

been having a problem with my video card here lately
and was checking around.

well when i opened up dxdiag i found a problem , it
says "the file directx.cpl is an old version, which could
cause problems".

i reinstalled the directx 9c , and no help. if one of
you fine folks could help me out with this i sure would
appreciate it.

got a feeling it might be a ati driver

thanks much , and remember that i am one of the folks
that appreciate all your vol. work.

Since you haven't told us what ATI card you have or what problems you
are having, I can't give you a specific answer. However, if you don't
have the latest drivers for it go to the mftr.'s website and get them.
Follow any installation instructions they have. If you have an old
video card that isn't able to keep up with games you want to run,
consider upgrading to a newer, better one.

thanks a lot for your reply. i have a ati radeon
9800xt video card with lastest drivers. havent had the
card but maybe 7 months.

so i take it that directx.cpl is a video card deal ,
and not a directx file , right?

thanks much

You have a nice video card. Rather than worry about the files right now,
tell us what problems you are having. If the problems are with a
particular game or application, tell us the name.

A .cpl file is a Control Panel applet. There is no such applet used in
DIrectX (these days at any rate). It may be one left over from an old
version that came with old video card drivers. What I would do is
rename it to a different extension (it would be in C:\Windows\system32)
and reboot so it is not found

Well, a *.cpl file is a Control Panel applet. If you aren't having any
problems, I wouldn't worry about it or try posting in the MS newsgroup
directxvideo. Here's a link to list of all the MS newsgroups:
