DirectX Problems

Greetings.
I'm having some issues with my system and was hoping someone here could
help me.

The problem seems to be that many games that once ran fine on my system no
longer run at all or crash at startup. A while back I managed to get a virus
that refused to budge and so I formatted my drive. After the format is where
my problems began. thinking that it was possably a bad install, once again I
reformatted. Still have the problems however.

When I try to run DirectX Diagnostics, without fail the program crashes when
it gets to the directinput portion of the program. Also, my computer is
refusing to allow me open the game controler(Joystick and gamepad) panel from
control panel

System Info:
2.4 Ghz intel processor
Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 256MB Video card
1GB Ram
Windows XP with Service Pack 2
DirectX 9.0c

You need better drivers for both devices. devmgmt.msc will allow you to
'update driver'. You will probably have to go to the sites of makers of the
devices to download to disk, and then use the 'have disk' option to upgrade.
