direct x

I have recently purchased a new P4 2.2 gig Dell and am
trying to load some older games requiring direct x 5 and
windows 95. I went to the direct x site and downloaded
direct x 9. However when Itried to install the game only
direct x 2 was found on my system. Can anyone help with
this problem and let me know what Imight be doing wrong.

DirectX 8.1 is backward compatible with DX 5,6,7 and 8.
Load up DXDIAG and at the bottom it should say:

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0a (4.09.0000.0901)

or something similar. Never heard of DX 2!!!

If a game requests an old DX then ignore it and continue to install.
If it won't install, use compatibility mode instead.
