Direct X Diagnostic Tool

I just installed directx9.0c. The installation went fine and showed that the
installation was complete. But on the diagostic tool screen, the version
still
reads 8.1.

I have tried by downloading and executing from the file, and I have tried
installation from the site. Both showed complete.

Anyone have a clue as to why the dxdiag tool is not reporting that 9.0c is
insalled??? Thanks for any help.

Have you rebooted or shut down to see if upon reboot dx9c installed?

Yes. I have rebooted, etc.

The PC manufacturer told me to remove my current display driver, reboot, and
check the dxdiag screen again. He says DX9 is not being recognized because
of the older driver. This makes some sense since I did a reformat last month
and am not running a new NVidia driver.

I am pretty savy with PCs but did not follow him completely. What he say,
however, did seem to make sense and I will give it a try.
