Direct Cable Connection Please HELP

David Palmer

So far 36 hours spent trying to move all my files from my
old Win95 platform PC to my XP pc - my portable hard disk
won't work with XP & although I've downloaded every single
article that even mentions DIRECT CABLE CONNECTION from
the Knowledge Base (& followed appropriate advice, the
best I've achieved is to get the XP to be a Guest (but
although it says "connected" you can't see anything in
explorer except the Host computer name(yes I've shared).
Also, when I try XP as HOST it doesn't say "Listening" (or
give the option to choose Listen as per W95) & W95 as
Guest reports "Cable Disconnected"
I had a full head of hair 4 days ago! - PLEASE HELP

This web page has complete instructions:

Many thanks for the reply posted by (MVP) Steve Winograd.
Unfortunately, followed all instructions to the letter,
(Double-checked all protocols in place even though I knew
they were there), still no luck, RESULTS - "XP as Guest"
connected to 'Planlog'as before (ie still no contents in
explorer & wouldn't let me map from either guest or
host) - EXCEL FILE ATTACHED WITH SCREEN PRINTS.
No instructions for "XP as host" - tried it again
anyway, - XP sets up an "incoming Connections" connectoid
which doesn't seem to be the right thing - & there is no
facility to "Listen for Guest" - is this correct?
