Direct Cable Connection From XP to 98

When I Connect my two computers, one running XP and the other 98, it is not possible for me to view the files of my XP computer through my 98 one.
Eventhough they connect, the 98 computer says it needs a password to view the host computer although i have removed all possible passwords from the XP computer
