Direct Access Component

Every time I reboot my computer I get a warning that a Direct Access
Component has encountered an error and must be shut down. It lists the
file as being tfswctrl.exe as the culprit. Anyone else had this
problem?
Thanks in advance

Perhaps try re-installing your CD writer S/W....

tfswctrl.exe
http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/browse.php?l=20&start=75&end=100

Quote: Drive letter access to HP's and Veritas' version of DirectCD. Does
the same thing as DirectCD. From HP - "This is a needed file as it controles
the readability of the Combo drives. Without this file loading the end user
will be able to burn CD's but wont be able to read them. The drive itself
will be able to read store bought master Cd's without the file but not burnt
ones"

SP2 seems to have broken my version of DLA ("Use a CD like a floppy"
software) giving that error message.
Uninstalling SP2 fixes it again.
My version of DLA was provided by HP sold by Veritas but now sold by
Sonic.
I can't get any help from any of them.
If you want to use it - best of luck and let me know!
If you can live without it, just uninstall DLA (May need to also remove
the "load tfswctrl.exe on startup" using Run & type: msconfig )
Possibly you are booting with a CDR/CDRW in the drive which probably
invokes tfswctrl.exe

I have reinstalled my CD writer software but didn't help, evidently a
problem with SP2

Thanks for the reply I asumed it was SP2

Probably is a problem that relates to the drivers in the old version HP
have; about all you could do is buy the up to date version from Sonic -
at http://www.sonic.com/products/dla/features.asp ($30)

The problem seems to be a DLA problem involving an incompatibility with SP2.
Owners of IBM systems should contact IBM and report the problem since for IBM
system's, DLA is IBM's responsibility as is true in general for companies
that sell pre-loaded systems. Be warned, however, that I tried the updated
version available from IBM and it made matters much, much worse. Now I can't
even open a CD-RW unless I disable DLA. IBM is investigating. In my opinion,
the more who report the problem to their system supppliers, the more urgently
they will consider it.

I just tried the link that Me suggested. Its HP's description of the "Direct
Access Component" error message. They are sending people to Sonic to get DLA
version 4.6. As I mentioned earlier, I got version 4.6 from IBM and installed
it on my ThinkPad. It was an absolute disaster. I didn't get that error
message but I couldn't use the CD drive either. When I loaded a CD into the
drive, the software hung "forever" and would't do anything. It was apparently
in the middle of a drive selection function when it hung. This also hung
Windows Backup because it uses the same function to search for backup
devices. By the way, the older version of DLA also hangs backup after it
issues the "Direct Access Component" message, presumably for the same reason.

When I saw that DLA 4.6 was a disaster, I went back to the earlier version.
The way I use DLA, I can live with the error condition as long as I don't try
to use Backup in the same login session.

I believe that my problems with "Direct Access Component" error and with IBM
DLA 4.6 are solved as of today.

Following IBM's advice, I updated the firmware on the IBM CD drive to the
1/25/05 version. I then installed IBM DLA 4.6. With the firmware update, DLA
4.6 now works correctly and does not cause the "Direct Access Component"
error message.
