Dire Need of Help

Hello
I am having problems that just seem to keep getting worse and worse. There
are 2 HUGE problems .. I'll try to be as brief as I can, but to give enough
info for you to review.# days ago, pc got caught in a start up circle, and
after trying many things over and over, I had no choice but to format and
reload everything. I have tried format and reload over and over but nothing
has helped. I have a 2nd drive (internal Drive F:), that has become lost
during all of this. No matter how many times I have reformatted, Drive E
won't come online. I have tried doing just a "search" for it, and strangely
enough, it located it ... BUT, how do I get the PC to realize it's there? Is
there some procedure I can do that will copy the Drive from Search, and
"install" it that way?, and if I do, will I possibly lose info?

2nd Huge Problem .. I have 2 smaller external hard drives that I keep my
music on. Somehow, the Drive letters have changed. I have tried the trail to
correct this, but it hasn't worked ...went to the Control Panel, then Admin.
Tools, then Computer Management, then under "Storage"-- Disk Management,
clicked on a drive .. drop down choices .. slected "Choice for Change Drive
Letter and Paths"..This doesn't work .. it BLOCKS any lower letters and when
I try to "Add" a new letter (Ex. (H:) it then becomes Drive (H:).. ( I
)..I've searched and searched troubleshooting, Kelly's, etc...I'm ready to
soak the thing in gasoline and send a match to it...I desparately need help
and would be gratefully appreciative if anyone can help.
Please help save my sanity ...
Thanks

maybe too many drives,
for one little motherboard &
one little powersupply.

might be better to have a couple
of large drives with multiple
partitions to suit your needs..

As far as the mising drive...if it shows up in disk management...all you
need to do is assign it a drive
letter.
As to your 2nd question, you mentioned the example of naming a drive H: an
it "becomes H: "
my feeling is that if you assign the letter H: to the drive and it becomes
your H: drive...you don;t have a problem.

And - you mention reformatting and reformatting - why originally? Does the
OS function OK now?

What do you mean 'caught up in a circle'? Bad hardware can cause the PC to
shut down or restart as well. Does Windows finish installing and THEN the
problem comes back?

Where? Where have you looked? Where were you when the computer was able to
see the drive?

It blocks letters that are in use. If you want this drive to be D: you first
need to update the current D: to be a different letter. After that D: will
be available to choose for this drive.

caught in a start up circle: When starting up the pc, it would get to a certain loading point, and then start up again ... thus the "circle"

Sorry, I didn't explain this more clearly The Drive letters assigned to the
2 external drives had changed (on its own) to a different Drive letter .. in
trying to get the previously Drive Letter to assign the past drive name is
where I'm running into this problem .. (for example .. when the Drive came
up, it had changed the Drive to another letter, and then BLOCKS any lower
letters and when I try to "Add" a new letter in hopes of correcting the Drive
letter to the wrong drive (Ex. (H:) it then becomes Drive (H:).. ( I: ) --
for instance if attempts continued, would then become Drive (H:)..( I: )>>(
I: ) ----- If I tried to rename it H: again, instead of dropping the other
letters, keeps adding a letter, it then becomes Drive (H:)..( I: )..( I:
)..(H:)

That's the best I can describe it.
Hope this helps.

Just forget about it, and thanks to all that replied.

I feel like a lamb thrown into a den of starving wolves ...
and a little like I'm on the witness stand and being badgered by the
prosecution.
I'll keep trying to work around it.
Thanks to all on "Help and Support"

Ok go back to disk management and *unassign* all drive letters except of
course for your boot/system drive

now you should be able to start over and assign drive letters as desired

Your first question: "I have a 2nd drive (internal Drive F:), that has
become lost. Drive E won't come online."

Are you certain that the drive letter didn't just change and it
is still there but under a different letter?

Does it show up in Disk Management as a healthy disk without a letter?

If it doesn't show up in Disk Management then you have probably
connected it improperly, check your power and data connections and make sure
Master/Slave is configured properly. If you are using a boot manager, that
could also be a cause.

If it shows up in Disk Manager but has no drive letter then the
partition is probably damaged, get Partition Table Doctor 3.5 or newer.

Your second question: "Drive letters have changed..This doesn't work ..
it BLOCKS any lower letters"

If you want to change your letters back to where they were,
first you should solve the problem of the missing F: drive. Once that
problem is solved they will all go back to where they were.

If you want to change the letters in the meantime, you can.
Before you can change any drive to a specific letter, you have to make sure
that letter is available. If another drive is using that letter, you must
first change that drive to a different available letter and that will make
the desired letter available. Keep doing this until all drives are the
letters that you want them to be.

Hope this helps

Thanks for answering my post.
I think you have me heading in the right direction.
I did have a problem with the 2 drives doing some "merging" together and
maybe some lost of info, but things are starting to clear up
Thanks for your input.
