DIMM question

I want to add a 1 GB DDR (PC2100) DIMM to my emachines C2685. There is one 512 MB DIMM
in it now. The specs say that max ram is 2 GB. So looking at the 1 GB DIMMs on NewEgg I
see there are "ECC registered" and "unbuffered". How do I know which to get? TIA

You may wish to take a look at www.crucial.com.

(link may wrap)

If you find them too expensive, you can probably use generic DDR:
unbuffered, non-ECC, PC2100 or faster. The nice thing about Crucial, though,
is that they guarantee compatibility.

(Registered memory uses a form of buffering. It's probably incompatible with
your system. ECC supports error correction, which adds an extra bit per byte
to allow detection and correction of bit errors. It appears that your system
doesn't support it. Even if it did, ECC is mainly used in servers.)

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
