adding more ram to puter

MoBo: MS-6330 v5.X based on VIA KT133A.

The motherboard provides 3 sockets for 168 pin SDRAM DIMMS and supports a
maximum memory size of 1.5 GB. Two DIMM modules of 256 MB each are already
installed. One socket is free and I want to install a DIMM of 512 MB on this
spare socket. Is that ok? What I am a bit worried about is this thing about
Dual Ram Configuration which says DIMMS have to be installed in matched
pairs to work properly.

Dual Channel which seems to be the term you are reffering to, is not
supported on the KT133A chipset.

However please observe your motherboard's support of High Density ram
modules.

On some boards that would be true but your model doesn't support duel
channels so matching pairs of ram are not needed. Look here,

It might be, a better option would be two matched pairs of 512mb from a
reputable supplier, eg Kingston, Crucial, Corsair etc of memory guaranteed
to work with your sys

The board has three memory slots, sitting on a single bus. There is
no "dual channel" or need to match pairs of RAM. You could use a
128MB, a 256MB, and a 512MB if you wanted.

There is a memory test report here. This will give some idea
as to how happy the board is with a total of three sticks.

Why bring this up HERE? This is a pure hardware question that has
absolutely NOTHING to do with the OS (Notice the WINDOWSXP in the
group title).
