New Memory Not Recognized.

Have PC running EPOX mainboard with 2 x DIMM slots (PC2100/2700/3200) 184-pin
DIMM's. Currently running 768MB PC2700 RAM.

Manual states that board supports upto 2.0GB of unbuffered non-ECC
266/33/400Mz DDR SDRAM, in 64, 128,512MB and 1GB DIMM modules

Decided to upgrade to 2 x 1GB PC2700 which were deilvered this morning.

Frustratingly, neither are recognised when installed

Hard to believe that both DOA but then......

Reverted to original RAM and OK. Am I missing something (BIOS??) to handle
1GB size or should I return as dead??

If your new ram was all that was install when it wasn't reconised your
computer would not have booted if they were bad.

Try running Memtest86+, this runs from a boot disk and should eliminate or
confirm if your ram is bad.
Let it run for as long as you can, 2,4,6,8 or more hours, if no errors by
then your ram is OK.

Just to throw more info so as to confuse you more. Did you get the
same style PC2700 memory for the 1GB sticks? PC2700 memory can be
"single" or "double" bank style. I would check with Cruical or
Kingston "memory configurators" so as to see which style your 'really"
need. BTW: I do recommend buying "name brand" memory like Cruical or
Kingston so as to "avoid" this "incompatibility" issues.

Map,

By unrecognised I mean when installed and started I didn't even get to POST
screen: Just a blank black screen.

Tried on ASUS A7v333 moba as well. Got same result. Concluded sonething
wrong and have sent back for refund - don't have confidence in these
"generic" modules

Many Dell and Gateway computers will only take proprietary RAM from
their manufacturers. Crucial and Kingston may not work. Their sticks
did not work on my Dell.
