Which one of these are the better/faster memory? Thank you!

A) 2 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 1GB PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC
DDR SDRAM memory

B) 2 x 168-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 1GB PC133/PC100 non-ECC SDRAM
memory

What does your motherboard manual recommend? These 2 types of
memory are so different that the question is not even relevant
to the situation.

Some boards will accept both types of memory, but not run together or
utilising 1gb sticks..

It became relevant when I asked. My comp can do and use both types. And I
have read my MOBO manual at least 3 times from front to back. It says I can
use whichever I want, but it does not say which is better/faster.

In fact, I copied both configurations below exactly from the manual.

Relevant now?

A) is MUCH faster but make sure you use RAM that goes with your
processor ... which is?

Obviously "A" is better.

Boards made around the transition period from SDRAM to DDR had the
capability to run either.. it enabled people to use RAM from their older
system until such time as they could afford to replace it for DDR types..

Don't be so testy, John. Look over all the posts you have
placed over the past week, starting with the CPU upgrade
and through various sundry items including a Lian Li Tech
card reader.

This is not exactly a chat channel and it was very nice to
read that you had repeated this question in the Asus Usenet
group with the make and model of the motherboard. It makes a
lot of difference between whether or not to take the time
to look up the information and provide a meaningful answer
as it specifically applies to you. Remember, you started out
with an Asus P4B and now we are on to an Asus P4S. It makes
a heck of diffrence. I would recommend the 184-pin DDR...
faster.

Now you're rambling. Boy you sure got alot of free time on your hands. Would
you mind leaving me alone and adding me to your kill file?

Thanks.
