Digital Photos won't open in Win XP

M

M Skabialka

I was sent a CD of pictures from a Digital Camera where the pictures were
all 2 or 3 MB with a .jpg extension. When I click on them in Windows
Explorer they do not open, with a message about a non-registered file type.
Other .jpg files will open on this PC. The files on this CD will open on an
old Windows Millenium machine using Paint-Shop Pro.

Short of installing Paint-Shop Pro on the XP machine is there any other way
to open them?

Thanks,
Mich

By chance in Windows explorer have you set "Hide Exentions for known
file types" off and in fact these files have extensions different than jpg?

Have you looked in File types (Folder Options menu) to see what if
anything is set for Jpg extensions?

Can you, in Interet Explorer, do a File/Open on these files to view
directly in browswer?

I show all extensions for all file types and show all hidden files.

Microsoft Photo Editor is the default, and it opens other .jpg files.

This I will have to try tonight on that PC...

The files will not open with Adobe Photoshop either...
