simply trying to play a DVD from the store, consistently get this error
message. Tried system restore. No new software that should be interfering.
Any suggestions?

Does the region code for the DVD match the region setting on the DVD
drive? Many retail movies and TV shows are encrypted with code that is
intended to restrict what parts of the world they can be played in.
There is a different decryption key for each region. If your DVD reader
is set to use the wrong regional decryption key you cannot play the video.

SOME DVDs have the region code number marked in a emblem that looks like
a little TV somewhere on the back of the original retail packaging.

WARNING: There may be limits on the number of times you can change the
region setting on your DVD reader.
