Digital Camera Download

My camera: Olympus 770 Ultra Zoom.
I have typed in my camera description (above) into the Camera Wizard.
I have downloaded many pics over the past months.
Windows XP, regardless of not having "properties" listed for my camera still
recognized it under its WIA protocols and allowed for downloading.
Recently I plugged a cell phone with pic capability; couldn't download after
searching "connection" for proper application. (Cell phone used same
(apparantly) USB cable used with my Olympus 770.)
Disconnected cell phone.

Later when attempting to download pics from my Olympus, I could not.
I made sure "connection" was reset for my camera, i.e., "WIA" and my camera
description appeared below.

Nothing; Connection wizard appears every time with description, "Cannot
locate device."

My camera battery was fully recharged before attempting to download.

I also did not hear the "ding-dong," when connecting my camera.

Did diagnostics; tested devices; all say "device working properly."

Did "system restore." No change.

My last resort is to now buy a new USB cable for my camera....

Any suggestions??

If you did not hear the "ding-dong" that means that the power to
the camera was not turned on. Just connecting it will not do it.
Also make sure that the camera it set for PC to upload.

I tried to "cover all the steps." Yes, power to camera was (should be off
before connecting USB cable)
And, once power to this camer is on and connectet to PC, window on digital
display on camera is "selected" to PC, and then you press "OK" on the camera.

Power was on, and PC selected.

Need more suggestions, please and thx for the kind reply.

maybe by disabling the usb device in hardware then reinstalling it might
help. don't you get a indicator in the task bar regarding enabling the
camera upon connecting it?

I don't know what your camera is supposed to do but when I plug
in the USB 2 connector into my Nikon 3200 nothing happens. When
I turn on the camera, the sound signal occurs and a window opens
alleging that camera is a moveable disc with a drive letter one
step beyond the last actual disc and gives a long list of
options, including uploads and the wizard etc. There are two
options on the camera setup menu, PTP and Mass Storage. Mine is
set to Mass Storage as is recommended.

For checking purposes: the "safely remove hardware" icon on the
taskbar, indicates my two USB devices when clicked, a hard disc
and the camera if the camera is connected and switched on. I
would suspect that there is something wrong with the USB
connection if this does not happen.

Thank you both for replying...

As far as uninstalling and reinstalling the device, I did.

I also tested all USB "devices," and all read "device(s) working properly."

My camera, (Olympus 770) is very specific in its "window" access when
plugged in and before any photos are actually downloaded, the window on the
camera states, "PC" "Print" or "Eit." Operative in this case is to make sure
selector is "PC," and then press OK on the side button of the camera.

In Windows XP versions, the Olympus 770 and other digital cameras are
supposed to be automatically accepted when first plugged in and the Wizard
appears....mine is not "propertied" in the software protocols but was
accepted and i have enjoyed downloading many, many pics for almost a year.

This is ordinarlily (up to now!) one of the simplest cameras to "plug and
play."
I may have a problem with "Plug and Play," and may have to explore
uninstalling and reinstalling that prog. I am reluctant to do too many tech
changes unless I am better grounded in doing those changes.

I am still open to suggestions.
I do wish to thank all who are or have responded. The suggestions have been
all in line with what I have tried and suspected......It's what I don't
suspect that may have happened.
