Difficulty opening excel files through Windows Explorer

I can open files while working in Excel.

Often I work through Windows Explorer. When I try to open Excel files, I
select the file folder then double click the Excel file I want, expecting it
to open right into the file. I then need to do File-open, and select the same
folder and the same file that I chose previously to get where I want to be.

Can anyone tell me how to shorten the process. It doesn't happen with Word,
Access or Power Point. It has been like this for years but I don't think it
was when the program was installed.

Using Excel 2003 and Windows XP Home Edition.

I have also tried opening through my computer and the same thing happens.

Hope someone can help. Thanks

In Excel, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the
"Ignore other applications" box | OK.

If the above doesn't help, then close Excel and re-register Excel
in Windows by clicking on Start | Run | Open: excel /unregserver
| OK | Open: excel /regserver | OK.

Thank you, that has been bothering me for months. The first "fix" worked.
Thanks again.
