Difficulty downloading special file types

I am trying to download files with special file types
through Internet Explorer. I don't get the box prompting
me to Save/Open the file like I did on my old version of
Windows. Consequently, my download is unsuccessful. I'm
assumming there is something I need to change with
Windows XP but I don't know what it is. Help!

if u know that the file is for downloading and has to be saved to disk, you can do this.

right click on the target and choose save target as and then the dialog box will pop up.
