Dialup dialog pops up all the time

All of the sudden, every 20-30 minutes the dialup thing pops up and asks me
if i want to connect to the internet or stay offline. I just click the X to
close the box and it goes away. what is interesting if I click to go to
another webpage or something, it goes there and gives no indication that I
was ever offline. I have actually been offline before and had this happen
and you can't go to another page that isn't in your cache unless you
re-connect. So something seems fishy here.
I'm using XP Pro and have a DSL internet connection. Tools>>Internet
Options>>Connections is set to "dial whenever a network connection is not
present." Could that be the problem? My understanding is that on a DSL
dydtem it actually does dial, so you can't set it to "never dial a
connection" like with cable modems.

thanks all

Tools | Internet Options | Connections
Click Settings in the Dial -Up section.
Click Advanced in the Dial-Up Settings section.
Uncheck "Disconnect if idle for 20 minutes"

If that doesn't fix it, find the same thing in your Dial-Up connectoid.
