Dial Up

Even when my computer is in the desktop mode, it
sometimes dials-up my provider automatically without
being asked. This means that I can return after a couple
of hours and the computer has been connected all that
time.I think I have the correct settings ie redial
attempts 0. Anybody else have this occurence? If I log
out, it does not happen.

There are several reasons why a computer might dial out,
email set to check for mail automatically and dial if
needed. The re-dial is for getting a connection if the
first attempt fails (busy signal or no socket).
Spyware and Trojans can certainly cause a problem, but there
are other possible reasons.

I have the same problem, and my antivirus have not detected anything.
I don't know it is good or bad, whatever it dosen't bother me.
And I am going to reinstall my system these days.
Reinstall computer periodically helps malware prevention.

Hi Peter,

Suggestions:

Right click My Network Places/Properties/Advanced (top toolbar)/Dial-Up
Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by Location/Uncheck all locations and check off
always ask me before auto dialing. Also, Disable autodial while I am logged
on.

In the Enable Auto-Dial By Location dialog box, select each location for
which you want the automatic dialing feature to operate. Reboot.

Disable or Enable AutoDial (Line 91)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To view the list of names and addresses recorded by AutoDial, type the
following command at a command prompt: rasautou -s

To delete a name or address entry from the list: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RAS Autodial\Addresses

You can delete any TCP/IP addresses that you see under this key. Note that
AutoDial can use IP addresses, DNS fully qualified domain names (FQDN), and
NetBIOS names.

Disable "Log on using dial-up connection" pop-up message (Line 77)
