dial up speed

i had a hp xt919 with ME dial up speed was between 50 and
52. i have an hp 722a with XP and i can only get up to
46.5. hp tells me thats all i can get but seems to me if
i upgrade to a better newer comp i should at least be
getting the same speeds. another comp using my line gets
50. so i know its not my line. Help, i use this comp to
communicate with my kids in the states. im in
australia.

This is not the way to check dial up speeds. Modems will
continually renegotiate speeds as they go along. Do some
speed tests you will see the same speeds for downloading
and uploading no matter what the hookup speed is.
