friends of mine are dial-up usera and until recently their dial-up
connection had been working fine with connection speeds in the 40kbps range.
now the connection rates are higher but the connection drops after a few
seconds. i attempted to limit the speed of the connection in order to
stabilize it. this works but unfortunately, the connection negotiation
doesn't always succeed and when it fails it ends in a long squawking noise
that eventually times out. perhaps there's a better way to alleviate the
problem. they're using a modem that uses the "softv90 data fax modem" driver
that comes with windows xp. the command i used to limit the connection speed
is "at+ms=,,,,75,40000". thanks for any help.
