DFS Question?
Senerio:
We use a combination of Active Directory Policies and DFS
shares to push applications (.msi packages) out to all of
our workstations. We point the AD package to the DFS
share and then the share is replicated to 9 different
servers at different sites. Windows 2000 Servers and
Windows XP Workstations.
Problem:
Sometimes if the local server with the DFS replica of the
package is busy or not responding as fast as another
server at a different site, then the package is pushed
across our WAN link from another server.
Question:
Is there a way to somehow, either through DFS or AD to
put a priority or setting to force the workstations at a
site to only pull packages from theh DFS server at that
site only?
Note:
I know that I can recreate the package to point to the
local server share instead of the DFS share, but that
will cause the applications to get redistributed to all
the workstations, which we do not want.
