Hi.

My Event Viewer reveals that the service Wzcs40cs (automatic
defragmentation of WinXP) doesn't start when booting.

---- cut here ----
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 27.04.2006
Time: 18:41:35
User: N/A
Computer: HOLLYWOOD
Description:
The Wzcs40cs service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
---- cut here ----

- The service is set to "Automatic".
- The path is correct (C:\WINDOWS\dfrgntfs.exe) and the file exists.
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\
BootOptimizeFunction\Enable=Y

Here the "sc query" output:

---- cut here ----
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>sc query Wzcs40cs

SERVICE_NAME: Wzcs40cs
TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS
STATE : 1 STOPPED

(NOT_STOPPABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0
---- cut here ----

Starting manually doesn't work either.

Any idea what can be wrong here ?!?!

Thanks,

G

Glen

Do you have a password on the account? Scheduled tasks wont run if there is
no password. You can set up a simple password then set the computer to log
in automatically if you dont want to type the password each time.

Yes, the account has a password.

The "Log On" tab shows that the service logs on using "This account"
(passwords are set).

Any other idea?

Thanks,
