I have a friend who purchased her computer a couple of
months before me. We both have compac presarios and both
have XP. When customizing her desktop, there are windows
around the labels of each icon on her desktop so that if
she chooses a color, it will show through the desktop
background and the boxes can be coordinated with the
picture. I do not have these windows around the labels on
my desktop and we are trying to find out why hers does and
mine does not. Does anyone know anything about this. All
of our settings match except I have a spruce theme while
she uses classic. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi Pat,

Start/Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Settings/ Visual
Effects/"Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop"

Also:

Right click the desktop and select Arrange Icons by. Towards the bottom of
that list, uncheck "Lock web items on the desktop."
