Desktop shortcuts

When I drag a shortcut to the desktop for NOAA weather, SeaTow harborcam,
etc, and left click the shortcut, it starts Internet Explorer but immediately
srtops responding. Does not happen with Comcast or with Google Earth.

Dragged from where ? Some locations lose the link information.

I open a desired website, add it to Favorites , then go to "C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\Favorites" , copy the internet shortcut to it and paste
on Desktop. Have several, like bank, phone book, even city transit system.

Dragged icon in address bar from an open MSIE window. Will try your
approach. Thanks.

Can you post those links? As some links (URLs) you just can't jump
there. As some websites you have to go to the main link first and then
navigate through them.

I tried Malvern's suggestion and got the same result. I think all of the
ones I'm trying are direct links - I don't have to go to sub-links to get to
my target. NOAA.gov is an example. I get the icon on the desktop, click it,
MSIE7 opens a window and instantly stops responding. I then have to do
CTRL-ALT-DEL and wait while it closes the program.

I don't know malware or IE install is buggered up? Do you have another
browser installed too?

I uninstalled IE7 and it reverted to IE6.
Appears that all of the issues went away, including having autocomplete work
and having effective links on the desktop. Thanks for the help.
