desktop shortcuts

I have several shortcuts on my desktop that do not keep
the icon change I select when I re-boot. All my icons
appear with the properties I have selected in my
C:\Documents&Setting\desktop folder, but when I sign in
everyday, most go back to the Microsoft windows default.
How to I change my icons so that they stay?

Do they restore properly if you r-click the Desktop and select Refresh?
If the problem persists, Delete or rename the hidden file
"ShellIconCache"( normally found in the C:\WinNT subfolder) and then reboot.
