I need to create a shortcut on the desktop (xp home) for a
connection to a website that stores username and
password. How is this done? Is this possible using 'new
network place?'

Launch Internet Explorer and visit the desired website.
Then, from the Toolbar, select: File > Send > Shortcut to Desktop.
