Desktop icons won't stay put!

I have arranged my desktop icons just the way I want them. They stay that
way for weeks. All of a sudden when I turn on my computer they become
scrambled and I can't find a thing! Is there some way to "lock" them until I
want to rearrange them again?

There are a few third-party utilities (at least some are freeware)
that can do this for you, or maintain the configuration in a file that
it can easily restore for you if you want it back. I don't have much
experience with these, so I won't recommend one. Either wait for
someone else's recommendation, or find a few with Google and try them
yourself.

I use Iconoid.

I use the same files used in W2K, and it works fine in XP. Here is one
link where you can get the files needed. The DLL file you place into
the system32 folder and the REG file you right click on and Merge.

Then all you have to do is right click on My Computer on the Desktop and
select, "Save Desktop Icon Layout". If you need to restore, use the one
below it.
