Migratory Icons on Desktop

Previously, the icons on my desktop stayed where I put them,
from boot to boot, ever faithful they returned to their proper
places.

Now, for some reason I'm unable to fathom, they take every
opportunity to rearrange themselves to the left of the screen as
though I had Auto Arrange set (which it is not). I installed a
DLL I found by Googling called layout.dll that added two items
to the Recycle Bin menu: Save Desktop Icon Layout and Restore
Desktop Icon Layout, but these only work sporadically and are
not what I wanted anyway.

Does anyone have any idea how I might keep my icons where I put
them as in days of yore? I am Googled out and sadly in need of
rescue.

Try setting them then running save settings on exit from line 54:

Thanks Kelly, but no luck. After rebooting the icons had all
huddled together to the left of the desktop.

Right-click the Taskbar in a blank area; in pop-up list, click "Lock the
Taskbar" to checkmark it. Won't hurt, can be undone by same procedure, and
MAY fix icon positions.
