desktop Icons appear slowly

On Windows XP Home:

My desktop Icons appear slowly. It takes a full 3 minutes
to write them all. Initally they are small white windows.
Once boot is over they will be ok after log off/log on.
Or after sleep restart. It occurs for all users (2).

Hi Jim,

This generally has to do with startup programs (especially anti-virus
programs). Uncheck any not needed via a boot: Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup.
