Desktop hosed-can't right click anywhere-XP Pro

Roger Wilkerson

I have had my desktop not show the icons. I use the quick
launch bar and or free launch/true launch.

Suddenly, I can no longer right click anywhere. I can't
right click on the desktop to bring up properties, or
to change the desktop to show icons. I can't even to
to windows explorer and right click on a folder or file
to use the send to or open a file. When I right click
anywhere, I get the hour glass and the systems hangs.
Sometimes I get the error report, etc. It hung for
30 minutes this morning before I had to finally shut
the computer down.

I have some folders with documents in them and ifI
attempt to open the folder, I get a quick dos window
and can't see what is happening(too fast). The folder
will not open. If I right click, get the hour glass
again.

Well, then, let's start here:

Malware Cleaning :

Now, just for the sake of asking... What happens if you create a different
profile or log on to the admin account via safe mode? Do things work
normally there? (Just looking for a backdoor if the malware cleaning doesn't
quite do the trick.)
