Desktop dissappeared - help please

okay here's the situation:

I was in my room working on something then i notice a game
on my computer that my younger brother left running crash
and close. As it crashed it said something about a file
being corrupt or something. (example: file "C:\Documents
and Settings\stEEb" (where stEEb is my user name in my
windows XP)

anyhow, i pressed okay (okay being the only button
available to push), then 4 more of the same warnings
popped up, so i pressed okay on those too. everything
seemed fine, then i restarted my computer.

On startup, it did a disk scan or something. (u know the
light colored blue and darker colored blue screen) well it
did some check up and fixed something, stage 1, stage 2,
stage 3 blah blah blah

then when on the logon screen, after i clicked my name,
and windows loaded up, something looked funny. Everything
was back to the fresh windows settings when you first
install windows. The green hill background, etc. my
question is: what the hell happened!!! stEEb logon name
was the default one too by the way. I had a whole bunch
of stuff on the desktop such as a couple gigabytes worth
of files and etc. I wanna know how i can get access to
those files, cuz i can't find them anywhere. (i don't
think they got erased because the disk size left/available
of my harddrive stayed the same, it didn't go down.
Please help. thank you. :)

First, go to start, search, file& folders, and enter one
of the file names that you remember. If it's there,
search should tell you were it is. Also go to control
panel and display and reset your desktop image.
Last resort, you may be booting up as new or different
user.
