Demoting Domain Controllers

Hello All

I am wondering how to go about removing Active Directory from a server. We have consolidated two domains down to one, and there were two domain controllers on the old domain. I thought you could run dcpromo in reverse, but it doesn't seem to want to release the old servers from the previous domain. Is there a way to make them member servers or will it be necessary to reload Windows? We appreciate any tips.

dcpromo can be run in reverse but thats assuming that this is being carried
out correctly. If you had 2 DCs on old domain, did you transfer the FSMO
roles before demoting the first of 2 DCs? If you didn't, that may be why
your demotion of the last DC in old domain fails.

Using Ntdsutil.exe to Seize or Transfer FSMO Roles to a Domain Controller
