DELL PC partmgr.sys

Hi Folks, I have start up problem on my DELL Dimension 4700 with the
blue screen of death with the following message.........

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: partmgr.sys

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart
your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software
manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory optins such as catching or shadowing. If
you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your
computer, press F8 to select Advanced Setup options, and then select
Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF89424AB, 0x00000000, 0xF8942424AB, 0x00000000)

*** partmgr.sys - Address F89424AB base at F8940000, DateStamp 00000000

....................

There's been no new HW or SW installed recently, although someone had
just used a memory stick to transfer data?? on the previous session.

Any ideas? I can get in to Safe Mode, see files etc, but haven't found
any obvious issues, I've tried the Microsoft and DELL help sites and no
real leads, thought I'd try the combined might of the Google groups.

Any help gratefully appreciated,
Regards,
Bob

Did you try those BIOS changes it mentioned? If you have never touched the
BIOS then be very careful and record any setting before changing so you can
go back to what is was.
