Deleting Mails makes the size to grow

Hi

I was cleaning my system and when I deleted my mails, I still see the pst
size larger than it was before deleting the mails. What can be done for this?

Please help me on this.

When you delete Outlook items, they will go into the Deleted Items
folder, which possibly enlarges the PST file. Removing items completely
(i.e. emptying the Deleted Items folder) will not automatically shrink
the PST file; you will have to compact it manually (via right-click |
Properties).

However, compaction will only occur if a substantial number of items
have been deleted.

Hi Pat Willener,

Thanks for your reply, but is there any effective way to reduce the size of
the pst file. I tried compacting as you said, the message box appeared just
for a sec and closed even though I have deleted around 2000 mails and also
deleted it from the trash folder.

Do you have messages with large attachments still in the pst file? 2000
small messages could take up less room that 2 messages with 10 meg
attachments.

Are you expecting more mail in that PST file? If so, it will re-use the
space of the deleted items.

If not, and if it will not compact, then the only method I see is to
create a new PST file, then drag-and-drop all existing folders and items
to the new PST file.
