Deleting local settings\temp folder contents?

R

Rich

Hi,
If you view all folders and look under
Documents and settings\my name\Local Settings\
there is a temp folder which for me contains over 70mb and
a temp internet file.

My temp folder contains eveything from temp files to ms office
applications to a large # of folders.

Is it ok to delete the contents of these to files?
I have heard both yes and no.

Not only is it OK, but it's something you should do periodically.
The only temp files it's not safe to delete are those in use, but
since Windows won't let you delete files in use, it's safe to try
to delete them all.

Hi Rich,

This should clean up this directory:

My Computer -> rightclick your harddrive -> properties -> General tab ->
Disk Cleanup -> check the items you want to delete.

You can delete the content of the Temp one - best done just after a
reboot, and not one where some software install had asked for a restart.
If any file there *is* in use you won't be able to delete, and will have
to repeat the delete all, leaving that one out.

Temp Internet Files should be cleared up from Control Panel - Internet
Options and in the middle of the front page, Temporary INternet FIles
click the Delete button
