Hi,this temp folder contains 914 files. 740 of which are TMP ps_1A1.temp
that contain between 9000 and 10000 KB each. TMP
file
Research throughout the forum suggest safety in deleting 9890 KB
them. Just asking for verification.

Also,is it safe to delete other folders, documents and perflib_
Perfdata_ 1e8
data files in this Temp folder?
DAT File

If files are in use, will not delete,as in user temp files?

Would appreciate other advice to regain disk space!

As a rule, if I'm not sure, I reboot and see if those TEMP files
are still there. If they are, I delete the ones that are
obviously just left-overs of crashes, bugs, etc., and the ones
with weird names I move to another dir (like \test_temp) and see
if it causes any trouble. If it doesn't, I delete those as well.
Some programs need a running tmp file in windows\temp but those
are VERY rare. And if the file is in use it will not allow you
to delete it.

Your internet cache(s) are probably full of stuff all of which
you can dump. Also, it is not a bad idea to occasionally take a
bunch of stuff sitting on your HD which you never look into, and
just burn a CD/DVD and file it on a shelf.

[BTW, I assume the crazy layout of your message is due to using
tabs and spaces for clarity. As you can see, it achieves exactly
the opposite. Usenet is a TXT medium and since txt appearance is
determined line length, by the choice of font and by its size,
spaces and tabs shouldn't be used since most people will
probably have a different setup than you do.]

Restart, then delete ALL of the tmp files. Any that are in use cannot be
deleted; that's why you do a Restart first. In theory none will be in use
yet depending on what auto-starts in the computer.

You -can- delete the prefetch, but it won't do any good; they will just come
back. If you do bother to do that, do NOT delete the .ini file in the
folder; it's necessary to have.

Disk Cleanup in Accessories, System Tools is the best way to delete the most
files and reclaim disk space. It's a long process but let it compress old
files, too in the settings.
There are other things that can regain you a few Gig of space, but you're
really into a futile effort here that will only last you for short period
of time.
Can you copy a lot of your data onto CD or DVD and get them off your hard
drive?

But, anything you do is only a band-aid; it won't last long. The only good
answer is to get a larger hard drive. They're pretty cheap these days.

everything in the tmp and or
temp folder is expendable.

however, if any of the files are
in use by other programs,

they will not delete during
your windows session.

Thanks all,for the replies!Regained 3Gigs deleting temps alone!
I do use diskcleanup as part of regular matenence but i dont compress
the old files. Seems most advise against this.(could have got this wrong)

Do have CCleaner, havent run yet.Still has downloaded settings which
seems to have just about everything checked.Did run analysis though!
Looks like the cleaner will do most things i do reguarly;cookies, usertemps,
event viewer, window error logs,ie history and much more. The
Perfdata(prefetch)is scheduled to go as well. The much more is what cautions
me.Again
thanks for your time. Apology for late response.

yes, I use ccleaner on occasion.

what I have also done is to create
c:\temp and change the path
for the tmp's and temp's files
to the folder above.

makes it easier to find and manage
the temporary files.
