Deleting IE Temp Internet Files

When I try to delete the Temporary Internet Files on my
daughter's computer, it freezes up and won't delete the
files. She has a Compaq Presario running Windows XP Home
with IE 6.028. The computer is only a few months old.

Her computer crawls when loading file windows or closing
them. She has a 2.4 gh Intel Celeron Processor and a 120
mb hard drive.
I've tried to delete the files using the Internet Tools
on IE. I also have Norton System Works 2002 installed and
can't get the files deleted with it either. It also
freezes up and won't respond.
