Deleting email error: messaging interface has returned an unknown.

I cannot delete "older" emails. I get the following "messaging interface has
returned an unknow error. If the problem persists restart outlook.

Well, i've tried restarting and nothing. In the meantime my Outlook file is
getting larger. I cannot auto archieve due to this problem. Any suggestions??

Which version of Outlook are you using and have updated from a previous
version or used a trial of Outlook 2003?
You might try a new profile with a new PST and copy your messages over to
that profile.
Running scanpst on your current PST file might also help.
