I am dealing with a machine where the intital version of Windows XP went bad
(why or how is not yet determined - that is the goal). For some reason this
person then obtained a legitimate copy of Windows XP Home and re-installed
it. This person obviously did not realize that they needed to actually BUY
the software, so it never got validated and will not load. No problems
there. However, I want to REMOVE this particular installation of Windows XP
Home so I can troubleshoot the original version; the one that this person
paid for when they bought the computer. I am verbose on this because I do
not want anyone being concerned that anyone pirated anything ... it seems
they might have TRIED, but the validation system worked! How do I go about
removing this copy of Windows XP Home? When I start up, I get both options
listed, and if I choose the original installation, I cannot proceed due to an
error. If I choose the 'new' installation I cannot proceed because of
validation error. All I want to do is have a fair shot at troubleshooting
this computer.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
